The Tunica-Biloxi Tribe is one of four federally recognized Native American tribes in the state of Louisiana. There are 1,226 enrolled Tunica-Biloxi tribal members interspersed throughout Louisiana, Texas, Illinois and other parts of the United States. Approximately 42 percent live either on or in close proximity to the reservation and designated tribal lands located in central Louisiana. The majority of tribal families in Louisiana reside in Avoyelles and Rapides parishes. The Tunica and Biloxi people settled on their current lands near the strategic trade route of the Red River after 1779. The reservation is located just south of Marksville in east-central Louisiana. Tribal lands comprise approximately 1,717 acres of Trust and Fee property in Avoyelles and Rapides Parishes.  Since gaining federal recognition in 1981, the Tunica-Biloxi developed municipal buildings including social and health services, police station, cultural and education center, gymnasium, and pow wow grounds amidst utility resources, paved roads and residential communities.

 

Tunica-Biloxi believes “Cherishing our past and building for our future”. They have established a diverse organization of economic entities to not only diversify revenue streams but create multi-generation sustainability. Current leadership has the desire to enter markets that not only create jobs and opportunities for Tribal members but contribute to an overall healthy economy.

Tunica-Biloxi Industries takes a holistic approach to our part in the Tribe’s economic development strategy. A portion of our profits will be used to support Tunica-Biloxi citizens through a multitude of programs and services. Tunica-Biloxi Industries is empowered by Tribal Leadership to create career opportunities beyond minimum wage. It is our goal to develop an atmosphere of purpose.  Tunica-Biloxi Industries strives to not only pay a living wage and offer health benefits, but directly provide employees with access to health care, child care and credit restoration.
